BHEL bags Rs 2800 crore contract

NEW DELHI: Bharat Heavy Electricals Ltd (BHEL) said it has has won a Rs 2,800 crore contract from Maharashtra State Power Generation Company (Mahagenco) for setting up a 660 mw coal-based thermal power project.

The project will be set up as an expansion project (Unit 6) of Mahagenco's Bhusawal Thermal Power Station in Jalgaon district of Maharashtra, an official statement said.

BHEL's scope of work for this brownfield expansion project includes design, engineering, manufacture, supply, construction, erection, testing and commissioning of the 660 mw supercritical thermal set and civil works.

The 1,420 mw Bhusawal TPS presently has two sets each of 210 mw and 500 mw ratings. All the sets have been supplied and commissioned by BHEL.

The key equipment for the contract will be manufactured at BHEL's Trichy, Haridwar, Bhopal, Ranipet, Hyderabad, Jhansi, Thirumayam and Bengaluru plants while the company's Power Sector - Western Region shall be responsible for civil works and erection and commissioning of the equipment, the statement said.
