Brazil fixed lines down by 1.3 million in year to November

The National Telecommunications Agency (Anatel) reported that Brazil ended November 2017 with 40.86 million fixed lines, which corresponds to a reduction of 1.32 million compared to the same month a year earlier. On a monthly basis, the number of lines fell by 135,964. 

The number of lines at concessionaires dropped by 1.11 million (-4.48%) in one year, while licensed companies lost 214,013 lines (-1.24%) in the period. Among licensed companies, Algar Telecom led annual growth in both absolute and percentage terms, adding 80,352 lines (+32.69), while Claro had the highest drop in absolute numbers, down by 293,399 (-2.62%). The concessionaire with the highest growth in the period was again Algar Telecom, with 21,960 new lines (+3.00%), while Oi had the highest drop of 831,237 lines (-5.84%).
