Penfield Town Board voted to purchase the golf course for $3.65 million. Tina MacIntyre-Yee/Max Schulte
Penfield town council members are expected to vote on a resolution to authorize Supervisor Tony LaFountain to sign a purchase agreement for Shadow Pines Golf Club during the town board meeting at 7 p.m. Wednesday.
The acquisition cost sits at $3.65 million.
The resolution follows some controversy, as the town originally promised residents a referendum would be held prior to the purchase, but approved a bonding resolution to purchase the course without pubic vote.
That sparked a petition, which collected more than 1,000 signatures, forcing a referendum. The referendum is set to take place on Feb. 27.
In a press release posted to the town of Penfield website, LaFountain said: “Having a signed Purchase Agreement is a necessary step relating to the town's potential acquisition of this property... I am delighted that we were able to come to terms for a Purchase Agreement on this property and want to thank Dolomite/Oldcastle for working with the town to achieve this... I encourage all eligible residents to participate in the vote on Feb. 27."
