PLAINVILLE--Wilton High’s ski team gave another outstanding performance at its second race of the Connecticut Interscholastic Ski League season on Jan. 10 at Mount Southington.
Wilton boys took second place out of 14 teams with a combined time of 275.48. They were 4-0 against the teams they raced head-to-head within Class S, defeating Weston (283.54), Glastonbury (297.49), Joel Barlow (297.59) and Cheshire (308.6).
Freshman Christian Theoharides led the Warriors again, achieving fourth place overall with a two-run combined time of 44.81.
Junior August Theoharides (45.78) finished 15th followed by senior Patrick Verrilli in 16th (45.83); senior John Fortuna (22nd,46.16); freshman Ryan Van Heyst (24th, 46.21); and senior Michael Hueglin (31st, 46.69).
“Aside from our wins I'm very proud of our team's infectious spirit,” Coach Mike Kaulins said. “Racers stayed on the hill to cheer for their teammates and provide each other with feedback before each run. They’re a great group that's built on team work and strong technical skill.”
Wilton girls were sixth out of 12 teams overall with a combined time of 299.78. They were 2-2 against the teams they raced, defeating Glastonbury (303.11) and Cheshire (329.23) and losing to Barlow (295.55) and Weston (297.47).
Coach Bill Howard said: “We were up against some of the toughest teams in the league and held our own. Our racers continue to improve and we have some talent just waiting to surprise some more established teams.”
Freshman Kira Howard led the girls again by taking fourth place overall with a two-run combined time of 45.21, followed by senior Julia Bonnist (29th, 49.17); junior Hope Ullman (43rd, 50.43); junior Emily O’Brien (45th, 50.61); senior Katie Reid (56th, 51.78) and sophomore Megan Kaeyer (59th, 52.58).
