Infiniti wants to electrify its lineup by 2021

Hybrids and EVs expected to make up half of brand's sales in the next seven years

Infiniti plans to electrify its lineup beginning 2021, offering a mix of purely battery-powered vehicles and e-POWER hybrid gas-electrics, according to a January 17 press release from the automaker.

Infiniti’s first pure electric vehicle will debut that year, and the company expects that by 2025, electrified vehicles will make up more than half of its global sales.

The lineup will, by 2021, look largely like the Q Inspiration Concept revealed this week at the Detroit auto show, though of course driven by fully electric or, in the case of its e-POWER-equipped cars, electric-assisted powertrains. The hybrid technology will use a small gas engine to charge a battery, offering an EV driving experience with the convenience of being able to re-fuel with gas if necessary.
