Mumbai: A senior executive woman, working in one of the leading media and entertainment companies in India, was stalked by an 20-year-old man while she was walking in Bandra (west) — from Carter Road to Turner Road to Manuel Gonsalves Road — on January 13.

Whenever she halted, the man would stop his car and stare at her. She got scared as she was alone during her morning walk and got into her car. But the man continued tailing her vehicle on Saturday morning. “Nobody suddenly decides to start stalking a morning walker. It is for sure that he was observing and following me for sometime,” said the woman, who lives in the western suburbs, told Free Press Journal.

At one point, the stalker overtook her vehicle, waylaid her and halted. “There are men who target women walking on Carter Road and follow them. Someone else I know also got followed and complained to the cops. That was sometime back,” said the woman. After reaching home, the woman initially filed an online complaint and later tweeted her ordeal and tagged Mumbai police. On Twitter, she has also put up the picture of car which was stalking her.

“So MH01CD2381 WagonR with Surdy driver has been trailing me from Carter Road to Palinaka and with his phone & flashlight on throughout. Sick men! While I was typing this he brings his car & stops right in front with a very defiant look,” tweeted the woman.

Based on the information given by her, the Bandra police sent a team with a lady cop to her home and recorded her statement to register the First Information Report (FIR). The police then promptly wrote to the Regional Transport Office (RTO) to get his vehicle’s details. After getting the address, the police team reached his house but the stalker was not at home and handed over the notice to his parents.

“We have registered the FIR under section 354D of Indian Penal Code (IPC). A 20-year-old boy was driving the car and he is a student. He is not in town at present,” said a senior officer from Mumbai police. The boy, who studies in a college in Aurangabad, had recently come to meet his parents in Mumbai. Meanwhile, the police is scrutinising the CCTV footage of the stretch where the woman was stalked.
