The 86-year-old Vishwesha Tirtha Swami of Paryaya Pejawar Mutt, who will be descending from the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ after his record fifth Paryaya on January 18, will be felicitated at the Paravidya Mantapa on the Car Street here at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
No seer of the ‘Ashta Mutts’ or eight mutts of Udupi, which propagate the Dwaitha philosophy, propounded by Sri Madhwacharya, has ascended the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ more than four times ever since the biennial Paryaya system began in 1522 A.D. here.
Vishwesha Tirtha created a record and became the first seer to ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ five times at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt/Temple here. He is also the senior-most among the seers of the Ashta Mutts.
The felicitation has been organised by the Paryaya Reception Committee. Along with Vishwesha Tirtha, Vishwaprasanna Tirtha, junior seer of Pejawar Mutt would also be felicitated on the occasion. Vidyadheesha Tirtha Swami of Palimar Mutt, who will ascend the ‘Paryaya Peetha’ for the second time on January 18, will preside over the felicitation function.
D. Veerendra Heggade, Dharmadhikari of Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, Pramod Madhwraj, Minister for Fisheries, Youth Empowerment and Sports, Shobha Karandlaje, MP, would be among the chief guests. Satyanarayana Acharya, scholar, will deliver the felicitation address.
