SUV rear-ends semitrailer, injuring girl

MOTLEY—A 16-year-old passenger in an SUV suffered injury following a rear-end crash with a semitrailer.

The Minnesota State Patrol reported the crash occurred at 5:04 p.m. Monday, near the intersection of Highway 64 and 124th Street Southwest north of Motley.

According to the crash report, a Mack semitrailer was traveling south on Highway 64 when it began to slow down for debris in the road. A Chevrolet Trailblazer, also traveling south, rear-ended the semitrailer.

Kaitlyn Anna Hanson of Lakeville, a passenger in the Trailblazer, suffered non-life-threatening injuries in the crash and was transported to Lakewood Health System in Staples. Neither the driver of the SUV—Susan Kay Peet, 55, of Staples—nor the driver of the semitrailer—Dale Leonard Rafteseth, 55, of Albany—suffered injury. All were wearing seat belts at the time, the report stated.

The state patrol reported the road was covered in snow and ice at the time of the crash.

Assisting at the scene were the Cass County Sheriff's Office, the Motley Fire Department and Staples Ambulance.
