Los Angeles: Pittsburgh Pirates former National League MVP Andrew McCutchen joined the San Francisco Giants on Monday in a deal which will see two prospects head in the opposite direction, US media reports said.
The terms of McCutchen’s move had not been officially announced by either Major League Baseball outfit but the five-time All-Star confirmed the switch in a post on Twitter.
“Now... I’m a Giant!” McCutchen wrote. “Ive always enjoyed watching the success of the @SFGiants and I look foward to being apart of more this season. “Can’t wait to meet my new teammates and fans. This is just the beginning.” In a separate tweet, the 31-year-old outfielder paid tribute to Pittsburgh, where he has spent his entire career since making his debut in 2009.
“Pittsburgh. My Home. My Fans. My City. The placed that raised me and helped mold me into the man I am today,” he wrote. “You will 4ever be in my heart.”
