Several pounds of explosives, stolen guns and drugs were found Tuesday in Great Bend when the Barton County Sheriff’s executed a search warrant that ended with one arrest and a deputy being attacked by pit bulls.
According to a release: Frederick Silas McNett, 31, was arrested for possession of methamphetamine and marijuana, possession of stolen firearms, aggravated endangerment of a child and criminal use of explosives as a result of the search warrant executed just after noon at 1520 Hubbard Street.
McNett remained in Barton County Jail Wednesday morning with a bond set at $100,000.
Sheriff Brian Bellendir said McNett would not say where the explosives came from.
“This is a significant amount,” Bellendir said. “This amount, if used properly, could do a lot of damage. And he had all the components present … These are all industrial/commercial explosives. This was not homemade fireworks.
“We suspect (the explosives) are stolen … Somebody had to steal them from someone.”
Information about drug activity at the residence led to a search warrant for drugs, Bellendir said, and a second search warrant for explosives was obtained once officers saw what appeared to be explosives.
When deputies entered the home, he said, two pit bulls attacked a deputy and at least one punctured the deputy’s leg.
Bellendir said officers Tased one pit bull and the two dogs ran off.
The explosives were removed by the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms. Bellendir said the investigation is ongoing.
