Letter writer says Judge Aaron Persky simply followed the probation recommendation.

Shannon Loucks (Letters, Jan. 14) claims the filing of recall petitions against Judge Aaron Persky should be celebrated. Wrong. Loucks is undoubtedly a well-intentioned lady, but has uncritically accepted the misrepresentations of the recall campaign.

The campaign claims Persky has a history of biased decisions. The Commission on Judicial Performance and the Santa Clara County Bar have both examined that and found no bias.

The campaign only mentions the six-month jail sentence given Brock Turner, not the lifetime sex offender registration and the loss a Stanford scholarship and degree.

Persky simply followed the probation recommendation. Different judges sentence differently, but knowledgeable people would agree that Persky’s sentence was reasonable.

No criminal law specialist supports the recall. They want judges to be free to decide sentencing based on the defendant’s record and the facts of the case-and not be afraid of being attacked by ignorant mobs. The recall is such a mob.
