Charles Tokarz, the chief financial officer and vice president at Medallion Home, was named to the University of South Florida Board of Trustees by Gov. Rick Scott on Friday.
Tokarz could not be reached for comment on Tuesday. Les Muma, a Belleair philanthropist who has donated millions to USF, was named to the board Friday as well.
Bradenton accountant and USF board member Byron Shinn said having another local voice on the Tampa-based body bodes well for area.
“I am thrilled to have another trustee from the Manatee-Sarasota community to continue to support our regional initiatives,” said Shinn, who is also chairman of the USF Sarasota-Manatee campus board.
Tokarz’s appointment makes him the third top executive at Medallion to serve as a Scott appointee. Medallion founder Carlos Beruff is the chairman of the 2017-18 Constitution Revision Commission, and Medallion president Peter Logan is on the State College of Florida, Manatee-Sarasota District Board of Trustees.
Tokarz’s term will run from Jan. 12, 2018 to Jan. 6, 2021.
He had previously applied to fill a vacancy on the Manatee County School Board, but the governor appointed healthcare executive Scott Hopes. Tokarz had also applied to fill a vacancy on the Citizens Oversight Committee for Infrastructure Sales Tax but was not selected.
Both Muma and Tokarz’s appointments must be confirmed by the Florida Senate.
