Anne Frank takes center stage this month at the Terrebonne Parish Main Library in Houma.

The library has partnered with the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect to showcase some of the young girl's writing and the lessons she left behind.

“Reading and Writing with Anne Frank” is on display at the library through Feb. 10.

The colorful display journeys from Anne’s birth in 1929 until her death in 1945.

The display places the Frank family along a timeline during their years of hiding and the political destruction that surrounded them and the rest of the world.

It focuses on Anne’s diary, published by her father after her death, and fictional stories she wrote during her time in hiding.

“This display that’s up now is very colorful and bright,” said Jessi Suire, Terrebonne Library public relations and adult services coordinator. “When people walk in, it definitely grabs their attention.”

Anne’s written account during the war prompted her to become a literary icon that many students continue to look to for a sense of what Europeans went through during World War II.

A representative of the Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect will also pay a visit to the library for a performance of “Conversations with Anne.”

Presented by Alexandra Gellner, the performance is an adaptation of Anne’s “The Diary of a Young Girl.”

Gellner has become very popular for the performance, Suire said.

The performance will be held at the Main Library, 151 Library Dirve, Houma, at 6:30 p.m. Thursday.

Bryan Caine, associate director of education for the Anne Frank Center, will introduce Gellner and also moderate a question-and-answer period after her performance.

The display is sponsored by the Friends of the Terrebonne Public Library and is free to the public during regular library hours. The library is open Monday through Thursday from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., Friday and Saturday from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sunday from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m.
