Adelaide Strikers moved to the top of the table and ended Hobart Hurricanes' five-match winning streak with a 11-run victory at home, on Wednesday (January 17).
The star of their victory was opener Alex Carey who hit a 56-ball hundred and put on a 171-run opening stand with Jake Weatherald. The decision to bat first thus turned out to be a fruitful one for Strikers with only Jofra Archer's late strikes restricting them to 187.
In reply, Hurricanes got off to a slow start and lost their star performer D'Arcy Short and skipper George Bailey in quick succession. However, Alex Doolan and Ben McDermott kept them in the hunt with a 102-run stand for the third wicket. But the departure of McDermott in the 18th over allowed Strikers to get back in the game strongly. They proceeded to bowl tidily in the death overs to clinch their sixth win in eight games.
Brief Scores: Adelaide Strikers 187/4 (Alex Carey 100, Jake Weatherald 65; Jofra Archer 3/27) beat Hobart Hurricanes 176/4 (Alex Doolan 74, Ben McDermott 45; Peter Siddle 1/18) by 11 runs.
