Delmont apartment manager charged in connection to 2016 fire

Alvin Andersen has been indicted by a grand jury on four felony charges, including conspiracy to commit arson and aiding and abetting arson.

The charges come 10 months after Brian Good was sentenced to six years in prison for first-degree arson for setting a Delmont apartment building on fire in February 2016.

"We didn't do everything until now," said Douglas County State's Attorney Craig Parkhurst, when asked why the charges weren't filed sooner. "Part of the reason was I wanted to have the defendant who was convicted in prison, serving his sentence first."

According to court documents, 76-year-old Andersen asked Good to set the complex on fire and provided containers of gasoline to aid Good. Andersen committed the crime to collect insurance money for the loss, according to court documents.

Good, of Aubrey, Texas, formerly of Delmont, started the Feb. 21, 2016, fire that destroyed the four-unit apartment complex at 104 S. Wilson St. in Delmont. He was arrested eight months later, in October 2016, in Denton, Texas.

Good, who lived in Unit 4, where the fire started, received treatment for burns "for some time" following the fire, Parkhurst said, but nobody else was injured. The building was deemed a total loss and demolished by the city of Delmont.

Andersen is charged with aiding and abetting first-degree arson, a Class 2 felony; conspiracy to commit first-degree arson, a Class 3 felony; aiding and abetting second-degree arson, a Class 4 felony; and conspiracy to commit second-degree arson, a Class 5 felony. If convicted of all charges, Andersen could face up to 55 years imprisonment and a $110,000 fine.

Andersen is scheduled to appear in court next week.
