150 nurse leaders from across south India participate in seminar at Christian Medical College

The Office of the Nursing Superintendent and Nursing Services of Christian Medical College (CMC), Vellore, organised “Beyond Excellence - A seminar for nurse leaders” here on Tuesday.

The Nursing Services of CMC recently obtained Nursing Excellence certification from the National Accreditation Board for Hospitals and Healthcare Providers.

Speaking at the inauguration, Ani Grace Kalaimathi, Registrar of Tamil Nadu Nurses and Midwives Council, said nurses are the heart and heartbeat of healthcare system. Qualified, trained nurses are the means to achieve quality healthcare. She urged nurses to get involved in doing good to society through first aid, health education, health management, policy making and nurse entrepreneurship,

Premila Lee, nursing superintendent, CMC, said the seminar was designed to focus on nurse leaders. A total of 150 nurse leaders from across south India participated in the event. The group comprised charge nurses and nursing supervisors as well as teaching faculty, according to a release.

Discussions held

Talks on topics such as “Nurse empowerment through regulations and policies,” “Enhancing care with information technology,” “Participatory management” and “Tomorrow’s paradigm of management in nursing” were held.

An open discussion chaired by Girdhar J. Gyani, director general of Association of Healthcare Providers of India, was held.

Questions on “What are the strategies to enhance professional visibility in the larger arena of the country” and “How do we guard against losing compassion, individuality and holistic care in our endeavour to promote quality in this technology-driven world” were deliberated.

Dr. Gyani concluded that statutory changes are the need of the hour and emphasised on clinical leadership, the release said.

Vikram Mathews, associate director of CMC, and Selva Titus Chacko, dean, College of Nursing, participated.
