Bridge over Lake Hartwell partially fails, closing one lane on Interstate 85

The South Carolina Department of Transportation announced that a bridge deck failure has closed the inside driving lane on the Interstate 85 southbound bridge over Lake Hartwell – Three and Twenty Creek.

Repairs are expected to begin Tuesday, weather permitting, a press release from SCDOT said. It's not yet clear how long repairs will take. 

"Until exploratory demolition work is accomplished to determine the extent of patching needed, we are unable to give a time frame for how long the closure will have to remain in place," the press release stated. 

The bridge deck failure was identified at mile marker 14.2.
