Gold gains on mild demand; silver tops 39K level

Mumbai, Jan 17 (PTI) Gold gained marginally for the fourth day by Rs 15 per 10 grams to finish at Rs 30,075 at the bullion market here today following good demand from stockists and retailers even as it weakened overseas.

Silver followed suit and recaptured the Rs 39,000-mark due to increased offtake by industrial units and coin makers.

Standard gold (99.5 per cent purity) advanced by Rs 15 to close at Rs 30,075 per 10 grams from Tuesday's closing level of Rs 30,060.

Pure gold (99.9 per cent purity) also moved up by the same amount to close at Rs 30,225 per 10 grams compared to Rs 30,210 earlier.

Silver (.999 fineness) rose by Rs 330 to conclude at Rs 39,220 per kg as against Rs 38,890 yesterday.

Overseas, gold prices reversed early gains to trade slightly lower as the US dollar recovered from a three-year low against a basket of currencies.

Spot gold was down 0.3 per cent at USD 1,334.86 an ounce at early trade.

Among other precious metals, spot silver fell 0.3 per cent to USD 17.15 per ounce. PTI RD MKJ
