SHEFFIELD — Gerald Dean McCoy, 73, of Sheffield died at 12:38 p.m. on Sunday, January 14, 2018 at 12:38 p.m. at OSF St Francis Hospital in Peoria, Illinois. Visitation will be on Thursday, January 18, 2018 from 5-7pm at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Services will be at 10:00 a.m. Friday, January 19, 2018 at Grant-Johnson Funeral Home, Princeton. Rev. Brian Moore will officiate. Military Sheffield American Legion Post # 415. Burial will be in Sheffield Cemetery, Sheffield, Illinois.
He was born March 12, 1944 in Kewanee, IL the son of Garland and Bernice (Williams) McCoy. He married Cheryl Oleson November 18, 1967 in Mineral, Illinois. She survives in Sheffield. Also surviving seven children: Robert Oleson of Kewanee, IL, Brenda McCoy of Wyanet, IL, Bernadine McCoy of Sheffield, IL, Randy McCoy of Garber, Iowa, Barbara McCoy of Sheffield, IL, Rich McCoy of Peoria, IL, Ronnie McCoy of Mineral, IL; 14 grandchildren; one brother, Buddy McCoy of Sheffield, IL and 6 nieces and nephews. He was precededn in death by his parents.
He graduated from Manlius High School with the Class of 1962. Gerald had several jobs throughout his life including Neponset Grain Elevator, Kory’s Farm Implement of Manlius, Illinois and many construction jobs. He loved going to the sale barn and raising animals. Memorials can be made to Sheffield Rescue Unit. Pallbearers are Brenda McCoy, Bernadine McCoy, Randy McCoy, Barbara McCoy, Rich McCoy, Ronnie McCoy.
