Letter writer hopes that elected officials of Congress will condemn Trump’s words publicly.

President Donald Trump’s vulgar comment about certain countries cannot be condoned. It was racist and despicable. If the president does not apologize, I hope that elected officials of Congress will condemn his words publicly. If, instead, they demonstrate moral cowardice and do not stand up against such remarks, our nation in its silence accepts the president’s behavior and opinions as normal.

The president needs to be called out for disregarding American principles of human decency and respect for all people. His Cabinet, staff, ambassadors and all appointed people in the White House should refuse to work for this man. I wish the people present at the immigration meeting on Jan. 11 had simply walked out.
