The eighth National Maritime Search and Rescue (NMSAR) workshop conducted by the Indian Coast Guard commenced at Chennai on Tuesday.

Chennai:
The workshop was inaugurated by Rajendra Singh, Director General, Indian Coast Guard in the presence of Admiral Satoshi Nakajima, Commandant, Japan Coast Guard.
International observers from 17 countries, members of the NMSAR Board and all stakeholders from state and central government participated in the event.
The Director General acknowledged the collective efforts by various agencies in search, rescue and relief services in the wake of cyclone Ockhi, at the occasion. He added that the immediate response ensured rescue of more than 850 stranded fishermen and assistance to thousands.
Admiral Satoshi Nakajima, Commandant Japan Coast Guard, stressed that due to increase in marine traffic across the globe especially in Indian Ocean Region the coordination among all resource agencies of NMSAR is very important and relevant for better search and rescue response.
