The op-ed column by Karen Attiah in Saturday's paper ("It's not just Trump: Western media's culpability") clearly identified U.S. media as for years having treated the black and brown countries in the same manner as POTUS recently did in his horribly racist comment. I feel that the media does the same when writing about our own black and brown citizens. A great example is the article in today's (January 14) Sunday Telegram about the Medicaid mandate for some states ("Medicaid mandate: Common sense or unfair burden?") that certain adults be required to work, get job-training, or perform community service in exchange for getting health coverage through Medicaid. The (Associated Press) article makes a black recipient the example! This certainly does nothing but confirm what too many people think - that most recipients are African-Americans. There are more than 70 million people who are covered by Medicaid, and you confine your example to one African-American! Shame on you for not heeding the need for more fair representation of African-Americans in our society. Please examine your future articles and start being the change that is needed in this country to fairly represent all of our diverse population.
