UNP Exco to discuss campaign progress

The Executive Committee of the United National Party will meet this afternoon (Jan.17) to discuss the progress of the election campaign and the strategies that they should be adopted at ground level for the Local Government election.

Party leader Ranil Wickremesinghe will chair the meeting.

Meanwhile, President Maithripala Sirisena had made a special statement at yesterday's (Jan. 16) Cabinet meeting with regard to the criticism levelled at him by the UNP Ministers and MPs.

A senior Minister told us that the UNP Ministers have expressed views relating to statements made by SLFP Ministers which could harm the sustainability of the Unity government.

This will also be discussed at today's UNP Executive Committee meeting.
