Harriett M. Thornton, 107, of Pekin passed Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, at Morton Villa. She was born Nov. 1, 1910, in Leitchfield, Ky. to Deolie and Ethel Bradley Elmore. She married John H. Thornton on July 3, 1932, in Pekin. He preceded her in death Oct. 8, 1967.
She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Andrew Asaro; sister, Rhuelma Beever; and brothers, Halley Elmore and Orville Elmore.
She is survived by her children, John (Marilyn) Thornton, Janice Y. Luft, and Diane S. Asaro; grandchildren, Jay Thornton, Scott (Carmen) Luft, Mark (Lelonie) Luft, Julie (Derek) Guidotti, Tara (James) Hester, and Darcy (Chris) Lawson; great-grandchildren, Jason, Matthew, Morgan, Andrew, Elizabeth, Michael, Colten, Garrett, and Marshall; and great-great-grandchildren, Graceland, Raylee, Jayce and Bryant.
Harriett worked for Pekin Hospital transport for X-ray and later for GNC before retiring at age 75. She loved to sew, travel and read. She was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pekin, where a funeral mass will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Jan. 18, with visitation a half-hour prior at the church. Rev. Michael Andrejek will officiate. Burial will follow the services at Lakeside Cemetery in Pekin.
