A suspected stalker of Rep. Kyrsten Sinema, D-Ariz., was arrested by U.S. Capitol Police outside Sinema’s Capitol Hill office in the Longworth House Office Building.
Amos Olagunju, who was arrested on Friday and later was charged with stalking, has been a threat to Sinema since 2014, a special agent’s affidavit revealed. In the past, the U.S. Capitol Police have issued warnings to Olagunju, according to NBC News.
The court filing reveals that Sinema’s staffers called the U.S. Capitol Police to notify them that “Olagunju has arrived in-person at their office and stated he had a meeting with the Congresswoman.” Olagunju was consequently arrested for breaching an injunction.
According to the court filing, Olagunju reached out to Sinema in 2014 to “express his love” for her. In 2015 and 2016, he initiated contact several other times and sent her several voicemail messages and attended an event in 2016 where Sinema was present.
Additional attempts from Olagunju, who is from Brooklyn, N.Y., included sending mail to Sinema's campaign office and attempting to volunteer for the campaign. The New York Police Department in July 2017 issued an injunction against Olagunju and told him to cease contacting Sinema.
On Facebook, a user named Amos Olagunju wrote several posts in 2015 about Sinema. One of the posts said, “Do you know you’re killing me with your love? I have to see your face. I cannot sleep without you. Show me your love spiritually and physically.”
The user also wrote messages on Sinema’s Facebook page and at one point called himself her “husband to be.”
Olagunju entered a not guilty plea on Tuesday in a Washington, D.C., district court. Sinema’s office did not provide a comment to NBC News.
