Police apprehended a Hazleton man for robbing Turkey Hill Minit Market in Sugarloaf Twp. on Tuesday morning.
It was the fourth robbery at the store at Route 93 and Airport Beltway in nine days.
John P. Brogan, 38, of 821 W. Sixth St., took off in a red Hyundai Sonata around 11 a.m., drove to Route 309 (North Church Street) in Hazle Twp. and headed south.
State police troopers, who were provided a description of the fleeing vehicle, spotted it in the area of 22nd Street and attempted a traffic stop.
Brogan continued south, though. His vehicle struck a bystander’s vehicle on Church Street near West 15th Street in Hazleton, then crashed into a home on 13th Street at Sherman Court, the alley between Church and Vine streets.
Troopers, who continued their pursuit, apprehended Brogan after he crashed.
Police from Butler Twp., West Hazleton and Hazleton also converged on the area.
The store also was robbed Jan. 9 just before 11 a.m., Jan. 8 just after 11:30 a.m. and Jan. 7 around 9:30 p.m. Each incident involved a suspect standing about 5 feet 5 inches to 5 feet 8 inches tall with a stocky build.
Sugarloaf Twp. police investigated all four robberies and said Brogan is a suspect in the previous robberies too.
Police from throughout the region descended on the area around the store after the Jan. 9 robbery, checking neighboring locations, and a state police helicopter circled overhead but the thief was unable to be located.
As Sugarloaf Twp. police received a report of the fourth robbery Tuesday, multiple police departments joined in the search for the suspect.
Sugarloaf Twp. Police Chief Josh Winters thanked the responding officers and vigilant neighbors to Turkey Hill who provided a description of the vehicle involved. That piece of information ultimately led to the arrest made Tuesday, he said.
Brogan faces robbery and related charges and is awaiting arraignment before Magisterial District Judge Daniel O’Donnell, Sugarloaf Twp.
