To discuss safety aspects related to Thripunithura extension

Representatives of four oil companies held talks with Kochi Metro Rail Limited (KMRL) Managing Director A.P.M. Mohammed Hanish and other metro officials here on Tuesday to discuss safety aspects related to piling activity in the vicinity of oil pipelines when the metro is extended to Thripunithura.

They reportedly demanded that a five-metre gap be maintained between metro piles and oil lines.

“We told them that this will be tough since land acquisition will have to be shifted by 5 m to one side of the road, resulting in more buildings being demolished than what would be necessary to widen the Pettah-S.N. Junction stretch. We also assured them that all safety precautions will be adhered to when work is under way,” KMRL sources said.
