LILLINGTON — A Coats man was killed Friday in a single-vehicle accident in Buies Creek, the Highway Patrol said.

The wreck happened at 1:40 p.m. on Leslie Campbell Avenue near Anna Street, according to a report filed by Trooper D.E. Edwards.

Nicholas John Peede, 33, of Baileys Crossroads, who was driving a 2000 Toyota Tundra pickup, was traveling east on Leslie Campbell Avenue at a high rate of the speed, the report said. The truck ran off the right side of the road and hit a tree, the report said.

Peede, who was not wearing a seat belt, managed to get out of the truck and fell to the ground, according to the report. He was pronounced dead at the scene, the report said.

Speed was a factor, the report said.
