gamers will see huge changes to Battle Royale on PS4, Xbox One and PCs when they jump on the Battle Bus in the next few days.

Epic Games has revealed that the Fortnite map will be getting a big shake-up in a new update which will be released at some point this week.

The current Fortnite map has what Epic Games described as ten ‘points of interest’.

The new, updated map will boost the number of ‘points of interest’ to 18 locations that players fight in.

One new location is ‘Tilted Towers’ which brings with it a much-requested cityscape for Fortnite fans to do battle in.

The area features multiple tall buildings with the verticality adding a new element to combat.

Speaking to Express.co.uk, David Spalinski, Lead Level Designer for Fortnite, said: “When we launched the Fortnite Battle Royale mode in September, we knew we had a solid foundation for the map, but there were things we knew we could do to improve the experience, as well as things we’ve learned from playing with and listening to the community.

“The map update that’s coming addresses a lot of that stuff.

“One thing we’ve done is added more points of interest to the map.

“This should give players more places to land, explore, and fight in.

“One example is ‘Tilted Towers’, which is a city area, something players have been asking for.

“This space features multiple tall buildings, that offer some fun verticality to encounters.

“Another example is ‘Shifty Shafts’, which is an underground space that’s a bit more claustrophobic.”

Looking at the two maps side-by-side shows the upcoming update has many more locations, with the existing ones looking more detailed and varied.

To implement the map changes, Epic Games has made a number of tweaks to the Fortnite engine.

These changes will enable the Fortnite team to add even more features to the game in future, including new gameplay aspects, more cosmetic and visual variety.

Sidney Rauchberger, Lead Level Designer, explained: “We had to implement level streaming in order to support all of the art and areas we wanted to add.

“This free up a lot of memory for us to do even more stuff in the future, with gameplay, visuals, and cosmetics.

“We like surprising players with new stuff, so we don’t want to give too much away right now.”

He added: “We also wanted to give the different areas of the map more identity.

“Right now, when you look down on the map, it’s basically one shade of green.

“We’ve added more biomes that make areas feel more distinct, so you’ll see different types of foliage and shades of terrain depending on where you are on the map, for example.

“The difference is night and day, especially the birds eye view from the bus; we hope people like it!”

It’s not been revealed the exact date the Fortnite map update will be launched on PS4, Xbox One and PC.

But Express.co.uk will bring you the news once it is announced by Epic Games.
