Major promises made at the time of bifurcation remain unfulfilled: Subba Reddy

YSR Congress chief whip in Parliament Y.V. Subba Reddy has held Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu responsible for the alleged raw deal meted out to the State by the Centre.

“Why is the ruling TDP continuing its ties with the BJP-led NDA when major promises made to the State at the time of the bifurcation have remained unfulfilled?” he asked. The Chief Minister, who called on Prime Minister Narendra Modi on the eve of Sankaranti, returned empty-handed, he told the media here.

SCS issue

The Chief Minister had no right to compromise on the Special Category Status (SCS), which had been promised on the Floor of Parliament at the time of bifurcation, Mr. Subba Reddy contended, adding that Mr. Naidu had bartered away the State’s interests by agreeing to a special package, which too did not materialise.

“The YSRCP will continue to fight for SCS during the Budget session of Parliament,” asserted Mr. Subba Reddy, who had moved a Private Member Bill on the issue.

“I am perplexed as to why the government took upon its shoulders the Polavaram project when it is the responsibility of the Centre to implement it,” he said, adding that the Centre should takeover the project and ensure its completion as per schedule.

Dugarajapatnam port

“There is still no clarity on the promised railway zone. So is the case with Dugarajapatnam port, which the Centre had agreed to build and handover as per the Act,” he said. “If there are technical and economic issues involved in implementing the second central port project as indicated by the NITI Aayog, the project should be grounded at Ramayapatnam in Prakasam district, he added. The Ongole MP said he would move a Private Member Bill during the Budget session demanding a ₹1,000-crore special package to fluoride-affected Prakasam district for early completion of Veligonda.

He would press for taking up of two Private Member Bills – one to include Prakasam in the list of seven backward districts for special financial assistance and another to amend the 10th schedule of the Constitution to disqualify turncoats, he said, adding the TDP made a mockery of democracy.
