WATERBURY – Mrs. Josephine (Rasco) Petro-Roy, 94, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Saturday, Jan. 13, 2018, in the VITAS Inpatient Hospice Unit of Saint Mary’s Hospital. She was the devoted wife of the late Alphonse Petro-Roy.
Mrs. Petro-Roy was born on Aug. 6, 1923, in Waterbury, daughter of the late John and Annamaria (Testa) Rasco. Josephine was selflessly devoted to her family. Alphonse and she built their home in 1952, and their house was always open to family and friends. Family parties and backyard picnics were always the norm. Josephine unconditionally supported her children’s musical and athletic talents. Cooking and gardening were her passions and she loved animals. Josephine was a strong woman who always spoke her mind, freely offering advice and wisdom to those around her. She was always extremely thankful to all who offered acts of kindness to her and her family.
Josephine was survived by her sons, David J. Petro-Roy and his wife, Patricia, of Waterbury, Ralph A. Petro-Roy and his wife, Carol, of Houston, Texas and Roger C. Petro-Roy and his wife, Joan, of Garland, Texas; her grandchildren, Ashling, David Christopher, Sarah and Rebekah; her five great-grandchildren and several nieces, including Suzanne Maia, who selflessly spent countless hours comforting Josephine during her final days, as well as several nephews. In addition to her parents and Alphonse, her husband of 63 years, Josephine was predeceased by her brothers, John and Angelo Rasco and her sister Mary DosSantos.
Her family would like to thank her caregivers Carla and Darlene for their exceptional care and compassion.
Josephine’s memorial service is Saturday at 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 309 S. Main St., Waterbury. Burial is at the convenience of the family. Family and friends are asked to meet directly at the church. There are no calling hours. Maiorano Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
