Fake Twitter account claims Florida lottery winner will pay for retweets

Plenty of us daydreamed about what they would do if they scored a $451 million Mega Millions jackpot, as 20-year-old Shane Missler did last week.

That curiosity was heightened after a Twitter account, purportedly belonging to Missler, touted that he would give $1,000 to whoever retweets or follows him.

Turns out, of course, that claim was false.

The account was created Jan. 13, just one day after Missler claimed the prize, and quickly drew more than 5,000 followers.

Missler came forward on his own Facebook page to alert folks of the fake account and to remind that his Twitter handle is @TheShaneMissler.

Missler, who took the lump-sum payment of $281,874,999 and will receive $211,406,249.25 minus taxes, has moved to an undisclosed location, according to his attorney.
