Students consumed marijuana at school, Hingham police say

HINGHAM – Officers are investigating after the school nurse at South Shore Educational Collaborative  said she believes five students consumed cookies containing marijuana on school grounds.

Hingham Police Sgt. Steven Dearth said they think the cookies were given to them by another student. The students who ate the cookies are all 16 or 17 years old. Dearth said there are no leads yet on who brought the cookies to school.

The parents of the students involved were contacted and police are individually interviewing the families. None of the students required medical attention.

No charges have been filed, but Dearth said whoever gave out the cookies could be charged with distribution and the students who ate them could be charged with possession.

“The primary focus would be on who brought them in and distributed them,” Dearth said.

The school could not be reached for comment on Tuesday evening.
