Leicester 2 - Fleetwood 0: Kelechi Iheanacho scores first goal to be awarded by VAR

KELECHI IHEANACO wrote his name into the history books at the King Power as Leicester eased into the Fourth Round.

Kelechi Iheanacho's second goal was awarded thanks to VAR

The £25m Nigerian became the first player to score a goal broke the resistance of Uwe Rosler’s Fleetwood when he struck two minutes before the break in the third round replay.

Iheanacho has endured a diffi cult start at the King Power and his only other goal in Leicester colours also came in a cup tie against Leeds.

It was harsh on the League One side who had battled bravely to cause an upset and they created a couple of good opportunities themselves.

Rosler’s call for his players to be fearless and brave in the replay was certainly answered in the early stages as they resisted Leicester’s early efforts to break them down.

Former Leicester Academy product Cian Bolger was a key figure at the heart of the League One side’s defence and kept his composure when put under pressure by Iheanacho as the former Manchester City striker tried to catch them on the break.

Fleetwood ‘keeper Chris Neal had to be off his line smartly to prevent Iheanacho latching onto a through ball from Adrien Silva as City tried to up the tempo.

But after showing great resilience in the face of that early pressure, Fleetwood then began to sense that it could be their night as they created two good chances.

City were given a dose of their own medicine when the lively Conor McAley caught them on the counter attack before firing a low shot towards the far corner which was turned away by City ‘keeper Eldin Jakupovic diving low to his left.

Jakupovic also had to show excellent reflexes to turn over a curling shot as Kyle Dempsey tried to atone for an error moments earlier with a curling 20-yard drive.
