A few days back, Jeff Flake in all his infinite wisdom took it upon himself to compare Trump to a mass-murdering dictator, Joseph Stalin.
This didn’t go over all that well and many people on both sides of the aisle took issue with Flake … including David Axelrod?
I’ve been as critical as anyone of this @POTUS for his authoritarian impulses, including his war on an independent and probing news media. But Stalin was a mass murderer of epic proportions. Is that really the appropriate analogy?

Even David thinks Flake is a … flake.
I think "analogy" is overblown. Flake is pointing out Trump's adoption of the phrase "enemy of the people" that Stalin used. If Trump was using "final solution" in his quest to solve illegal immigration, it'd be legit to point out the history of those words.

We think Bier might be giving Flake too much credit for thinking this deeply about his insult. Honestly, Flake hates Trump so much he likely compared him to one of the ugliest rulers he could think of like Stalin.
That or he realized calling Trump, Hitler was so 2017.

But even though Axelrod questioned the comparison, there were plenty of liberal green penises on the thread trying to convince him that TRUMP IS LIKE STALIN; and these people wonder why we make fun of them.
True. Stalin killed 20 million of his own people. The comparison when he was at his height is hyperbole. That said, Stalin, Hitler and others started somewhere…

3 million people lost health insurance this year. That kills people. Trump is sending people back to dangerous countries. That kills people. Mass shootings, and assaults on minorities are up, due to his rhetoric and his lack of gun policies. How is he not a killer, again?

I believe its appropriate, because Trumplandia is on a slippery slope towards that type of tactical implementation. I believe he hates the constraints that the Constitution places on Govt, so he will move to decouple in every way possible.

Should we wait until we get to that point or should we point out the similarities before it's too late? The analogy may be harsh, but who called out Hitler and Stalin before they gained momentum? Is Charlottesville that distant of a thought?
