English-Language DingTalk Dives into New Markets

Alibaba and its fearless leader, Jack Ma are a global phenomenon. Its success cannot be denied, and as we watch Amazon here in the United States, Alibaba is serving up some serious disruption, as well in China. The Chinese-based firm is dominating the market space in its region, and now is making efforts to extend presence beyond China.


This week, Alibaba rolled out an official English-language version of DingTalk, its enterprise collaboration and chat application. Touting more than five million users in China, the newly released DingTalk is now available in Malaysia and India taking aim at firms of all sizes in its new market.

The goal in developing DingTalk is enable exceptional collaboration, and with its new English offering, companies seeking to modernize communications and enter the digital era have a solution more than capable. In terms of features, the solution enables audio and video conferencing, secure group and one-to-one chat in addition to email integration.

This is DingTalk’s first official foray out of China, while the initial app is available for download in the Google (News - Alert) Play or Itunes, and has somewhat of a user base in countries like Taiwan, Tailand and the United States, this week’s news signals an overt effort to expand into new markets. Also, don’t be shocked to see DingTalk in more markets soon, as Alibaba is currently developing a Japanese language counterpart.   

“Our endeavor is to empower SMEs so they can scale and become part of the global marketplace,” Chris Wang, head of global business development, explained.  “Technology is a powerful tool to help businesses enhance operations, and function smoothly. With DingTalk, we will enable organizations to seamlessly communicate and collaborate across locations, thereby increasing productivity.”
