Martial netted a stunning effort as Manchester United swept aside Stoke 3-0 at Old Trafford last night.

Paul Pogba found his French compatriot on the edge of the area before the 22-year-old curled home a powerful shot into the top corner.

Mourinho says Martial netted an equally fine goal in training over the weekend but it was the Special One providing the assist.

The United boss said: “He scored yesterday the same goal in training but instead of Paul's pass, it was my pass.

“I was making the assists for the finishing. It was a great assist and the same shot!"

Antonio Valencia opened the scoring last night with a stunning goal of his own.

The Ecuador ace cut inside Josh Tymon and onto his left foot before unleashing a thunderous strike past Jack Butland.

On the winger turned right-back, Mourinho added: "Valencia can do anything.

“When he scores, he really scores fantastic goals. I am really happy for him. He was away injured but he came back, played well and scored a goal."

Pogba was also superb against the Potters, with Mourinho saying: "He was moving the ball fantastically well, with long passes changing the direction and creating problems for the opponent.

“He had an assist and if he had scored the free-kick with the last shot of the game, it would be really a reward for him.

“I think he is happy with the way the team is playing and he's happy because the team is changing the profile and the profile is going more in his direction."

United’s win over Stoke cut Manchester City’s lead at the top of the Premier League table to 12 points following their defeat at Liverpool.

The Red Devils will hope to cut the gap further when they take on Burnley next weekend before City host Newcastle.
