The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office has charged Jmichael Johnson, 30, with felony murder and felony firearm in the Jan. 10 shooting death of Chance William Bush, 36, but will challenge the $100,000 bond Johnson received with an emergency motion, The News has learned.
Police say the victim and the suspect, whom they did not identify but whose names appear in court records, got involved in a physical altercation on the 17800 block of East Warren, which is east of Cadieux on the city's east side.
The victim was approached by the suspect, who was driving a vehicle and armed, said Sgt. Nicole Kirkwood, relaying preliminary information from the day of the incident. Seeing the gun, the suspect ran, but the suspect got out of his vehicle and caught up to him. The victim was shot twice, then hit with another object while he was on the ground, authorities say.
The suspect and victim "had a past history of complaints," wrote Maria Miller, spokeswoman for the Wayne County Prosecutor's Office.
Johnson was arrested at the scene.
At his arraignment Saturday at the 34th District Court in Romulus, Johnson was given a cash bond of $100,000. The prosecutor's office will pursue an emergency bond issue on that motion, Miller confirmed.
Wayne County Jail records showed that Johnson was in custody over the weekend, but did not show him as an inmate as of Tuesday. The Wayne County Jail did not immediately respond to a request for information on Tuesday.
Johnson is due back in court on Jan. 23 for a probable cause conference at 8:30 a.m. before Judge Deborah Lewis Langston in Third Circuit Court, and on Jan. 30 at 1:30 p.m. for his preliminary exam.
