This is Abhinav Kaul and I will take you through the motions of today's session on Dalal Street and bring you cues and trading tips from market veterans for upcoming trading sessions.

The domestic equity market snapped a three-day winning streak on Tuesday after December's trade deficit data dampened investor sentiment on Dalal Street.

BSE Sensex shed 72 points to close at 34,771, while the broader Nifty50 index lost 41 points to 10,700, with 17 constituents in the green and 33 in the red.

The currency market was also in turmoil as the rupee cracked 60 paise against the greenback.

IPO of Newgen Software was subscribed 16 per cent on Day 1 of the bidding process till 3.30 pm.

Coming to the stocks

Positive third quarter results lifted shares of Delta Corp and ICICI Lombard during the session.

Global financial services firm UBS initiated coverage on Reliance Industries with 'Sell' rating and set a target price at Rs 870, indicating a fall of 8 per cent against Monday's close of Rs 947.60.

RIL slipped to Rs 923.50, down 2.54 per cent on BSE.
