A key Pakistani politician and the leader of Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam Fazal Maulana Fazl-ur-Rehman has slammed the policymakers of the country regarding the growing role of India in Afghanistan.

Maulana Fazl reportedly made the remarks during his speech in the National Assembly of Pakistan on Monday.

“The United States do not trust us and that is why instead of Pakistan, there is presence of India in Afghanistan,” he was quoted as saying in a report by The News.

Referring to the policy statement of Pakistan’s defense minister Khurram Dastgir, Maulana Fazl said that the policymakers of Pakistan believe that the meaning of isolation was that the United States and the western world was not with the country.

“But isolation means that we are not in good relations with neighbouring countries,” he added.

This comes as the Pakistani officials have long been criticizing regarding the growing role of India in Afghanistan and in some stances have accused the security institutions of India and Afghanistan for plotting and destructive activities in Pakistan.

However, the Afghan officials reject the allegations and insist that New Delhi has played a key role in the reconstruction of Afghanistan since the fall of the Taliban regime.

On the other hand, the US officials have also hailed the constructive role of India in Afghanistan and insist on further key role and contribution of India as well as Pakistan for the implementation of the new US strategy.
