Sioux Falls police say a drug rip led to gunshots being fired in southwestern Sioux Falls over the weekend.

Officers reported to the 3500 block of South Larch Avenue just after 3 p.m. Saturday, according to police spokesman Sam Clemens.

They had received several reports of gunshots in the area, and found shell casings at the scene upon arrival.

Further investigation soon led them to an apartment, where they found and arrested two suspects in the shooting.

The suspects are 20-year-old Gemechu Yassin, who was charged with robbery and misprision of a felony, and a 16-year-old male, charged with robbery and aggravated assault.

Clemens said two groups met up for a drug deal, intending to exchange a small amount of marijuana. Yassin and the 16-year-old had come as the buyers, Clemens said, but planned to rob the sellers.

During the incident, Clemens said the 16-year-old fired a handgun several times at the victims, hitting their car.

No one was injured, Clemens said, but the handgun was found to be stolen, and it's possible more charges and arrests will occur.
