DOMESTIC VIOLENCE

An Attalla couple were arrested early Sunday morning after a report of domestic violence in the 400 block of Chestnut Street. Police were called to a parking lot about 12:30 a.m. and found a 39-year-old woman bleeding and crying in a doorway. She said her 26-year-old husband assaulted her. She had visible bruises on her face and was bleeding from her mouth and nose. Medics were called to treat her and she was taken to a local hospital. She told police she and her husband were eating at a downtown restaurant and drinking a few hours earlier, then went to a bar and drank more. When they crossed the street to the parking lot argued and her husband hit her in the face a few times. She could not stand on her own and needed officers on several occasions to hold her so she wouldn’t fall over. There was a strong odor of alcohol on her breath. The original caller had reported the man was sitting in a vehicle in the parking lot. Officers approached a Dodge van and found a white male passed out at the wheel, with vomit on the ground in front of the door. When they got the man out of the van he had vomit all down the side of his clothes and smelled strongly of alcoholic beverages. He told police he remembered drinking with his wife at a bar across the street and leaving to go home, but recalled nothing after that. Officers observed blood on his knuckles. He was arrested and his wife was taken to the hospital, but was later booked into the Etowah County Detention Center for appearing in public under the influence.
