New Delhi, Jan 16: Padmaavat will not be screened in Haryana as the state government on Tuesday decided to ban the movie which is slated to be released on January 25. Confirming the ban, Haryana Minister Anil Vij said that the movie will not be allowed to be screened in movie halls in the state.

The ban comes a day after Chief Minister ML Khattar said the administration will take a call on the movie after watching it. Film Padmavati/Padmavat banned in Haryana

Haryana is the third Bharatiya Janata Party-ruled state after Gujarat and Rajasthan to impose a ban on the movie which has been embroiled in controversy ever since it was announced.

The film, which was scheduled to hit the screens in December last year, was opposed by Rajput groups following which the makers decided to postpone its release.  The received a clearance from the Central Board for Film Certification after the change of title and some script modifications. The period romance featuring Deepika Padukone, Shahid Kapoor and Ranveer Singh in lead roles was earlier scheduled to be released on December 1.

No Show in Gujarat, Rajasthan

The Gujarat government has already the screening of period drama, saying the step was necessary to maintain law and order. Before the Assembly polls in Gujarat in November last year, the state government had banned the movie, which was earlier titled as “Padmavati”. (Also Read: Historian Reveals The ACTUAL Problem With Deepika Padukone’s Movie)

While issuing the notification, Minister of State for Home Pradeepsinh Jadeja said the ban on the movie was necessary to maintain law and order. As per the notification, the ban was imposed as per the provisions of the Gujarat Cinemas (Regulation) Act of 2004. Earlier, on January 8, Rajasthan had banned the movie. “Honouring the sentiments of the people of the state, the film will not be released in Rajasthan,” CM Vasundhara Raje had said.

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had also indicated that the film will not be allowed to be released in his state.
