A West Point man continues to fight for his life while police seek three people in connection with his shooting.

A fourth suspect remains in jail under a $200,000 bond.

According to police, 21-year-old Joshua Maurice Ewing is charged with accessory after the fact in connection with the shooting early Saturday morning of a man at a home in the 300 block of Fifth Street north near the old Northside School, Police Chief Avery Cook said.

Ewing was arrested early Saturday afternoon but is not cooperating with investigators, Police Chief Avery Cook said. His bond was set Monday.

Police responded to the Fifth Street home at about 2 a.m. Saturday and found the victim with multiple gunshot wounds. He was shot at least twice in the body, the chief said.

Investigators think the altercation started outside in the yard and escalated inside the home, according to Cook, noting detectives have little else to go on at this point.

"We know we need to get these kinds of folks off the streets," Cook stated.

Someone else who was in the home called 911 after the shooting, Cook said.

The victim was transferred to North Mississippi Medical Center in Tupelo.

"We're trying to piece it all together, but we're not getting much help right now. The victim is still sedated so we haven't been able to talk to him. It looks like he is going to make it, but it may be slow.

He lost a lot of blood. We pray he makes it," Cook stated. "We really need the community's help right now. We need anyone who knows anything to call," the chief continued.

Anyone with information on the case is asked to call West Point Police at 662-494-1244.

Although Ewing is close in age to Andre Lane, the 19-year-old charged in connection with a New Year's Day robbery, and the two both went to West Point High, police don't think the two incidents are related.

"They are totally separate. They aren't related at all," Cook stated when asked about any possible connection.
