Four persons, including, two women patients, were charred to death in two separate incidents reported from Bareilly and Badaun districts respectively.
In Bareilly, two women were killed after being trapped in a fire that broke out in ICU of Sai Hospital on Stadium road under Baradari police station area in the wee hours of Monday. The fire reportedly broke out due to short circuit. The deceased patients were identified as Rajbala (50) and Mangla Devi (65) while some other patients were critically injured.
Meanwhile in Badaun, two persons were charred to death in a fire that engulfed their car after it was hit by a vehicle on the Moradabad-Farukhabad highway in Wazirganj area late on Sunday night. Nirvesh (30) and his brother-in-law Dinesh (28) were trapped in the car and were roasted alive. Nirvesh’s son Dev (10) managed to escape with minor injuries. A case was registered in this connection.
In Bareily, Fire department personnel rushed to the spot and shifted patients to a nearby hospital. Surprisingly the staff of the nursing home escaped soon after the incident.
Acting District Magistrate, OP Verma has ordered a magisterial probe into the incident “The bodies of victims have been sent for autopsy and an FIR has been lodged against the hospital owner and its management at Baradari police station,” SP (City) Rohit Singh Sajwan said.
Hospital owner Sharad Agarwal said that there were three patients in ICU and the hospital staff tried to shift them but as family members started fighting with the staff, they fled. Police said they were probing the matter.
