Former Auburn tight end Landon Rice has found another landing spot.

The former four-star prospect will sign with Jacksonville State, Gamecocks tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator JR Sandlin posted on Twitter on Monday evening. Rice spent the last season at Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College after joining the program last spring.

Originally a member of Auburn's 2016 signing class, Rice left Auburn on Sept. 10, 2016 due to what coach Gus Malzahn called "personal reasons." Rice was accused of rape for an incident that occurred in April 2016, and following a Title IX investigation he was found "responsible" of sexual assault. Rice's attempt to appeal the ruling was denied.

As a result of Auburn's Title IX investigation, Rice was banned from stepping foot on Auburn's campus until the fall of 2024 and is not permitted to attend any Auburn University events during that time. However, those sanctions "expired" on Sept. 26, 2017, according to a memo from Auburn University Title IX coordinator Kelley Taylor provided by JSU.

"Jacksonville State University conducted a very thorough investigation surrounding all of the facts on Landon Rice, just like we do on any of our recruits," according to a statement from JSU. "After speaking with several officials from Auburn University and getting all of the facts surrounding the investigation, and after meeting with Landon, we decided to allow Landon to enroll at JSU and join our football program.

"On September 26, 2017, all sanctions imposed upon Landon as a result of a Title IX investigation expired and Landon was returned to the status of 'good standing' at Auburn University. The matter and all proceedings therein have been concluded, according to a memo dated November 7, 2017, from Kelley Taylor, Director AA/EEO and Title IX Coordinator at Auburn University.

"We have high standards for all of our student-athletes and we do our due diligence on all recruits before they join any of our athletics teams at Jacksonville State and Landon was treated the same. Privacy laws prevents us from releasing more details on the investigation."

According to the Notice of Final Outcome letter from Auburn's Title IX office, which was obtained by AL.com last spring, the notice will follow Rice around to any other schools that request his academic transcripts, stating that he was "suspended for violations of the University's Policy on Sexual and Gender-Based Misconduct and Other Forms of Interpersonal Violence."

At MGCCC last season, Rice appeared in nine games and caught eight passes for 102 yards.

In April, a Twitter account appearing to belong to Rice indicated that he received a scholarship offer from Louisville, but a school spokesman denied that the Cardinals were recruiting Rice. The tweet and the Twitter account were deleted shortly thereafter.
