A four-vehicle crash on Interstate 26 in Spartanburg has left one dead and five injured.
The crash occurred around 8:14 p.m. Monday at the 20 mile marker of I-26.
A 47-year-old from Clyde, N.C. was driving west on I-26 when he struck the median and continued into eastbound traffic, striking three other vehicles, said S.C. Highway Patrol trooper Justin Sutherland.
The driver of a 1999 Chevrolet SUV became entrapped from the collision. The driver was extricated and taken to the Spartanburg Medical Center where they died, Sutherland said.
In that vehicle were two passengers, a 35-year-old woman and a juvenile, who were both injured and taken to the hospital, Sutherland said.
An Inman man driving a 2016 Chevrolet pick-up was also struck and taken to the hospital for injuries. In his vehicle was another juvenile who was also hospitalized, Sutherland said.
The driver who crossed into oncoming traffic and struck the other vehicles was also hospitalized for injuries. He was driving a 2010 Honda sedan.
The driver of a 2008 Chevy sedan, a 21-year-old man from Boiling Springs, was also struck but was not injured, Sutherland said.
All of those involved were wearing seat belts, he said.
The deceased person’s identity has not yet been released.
No charges have been filed and the crash remains under investigation.
