A 43-year-old Greer woman pled guilty in federal court to conspiracy to commit mail theft in Greenville County.
Evidence suggested that Donna Arledge and others stole mail in and around Greenville County in an attempt to find bank account numbers, routing numbers and identification information. "Once in possession of this material they would create counterfeit checks, or simply alter legitimate checks taken from the mail, and negotiate them to obtain money," a press release from the U.S. Attorney stated.
The conspirators then opened bank accounts under other identities and used those accounts to deposit and withdraw stolen money, the press release stated.
The maximum penalty Arledge can receive is a $250,000 fine and/or 5 years imprisonment, and a $100 special assessment.
