A 62-year-old Houma man led state police on a car chase over the weekend on a local highway before getting arrested for this third DWI, authorities said.

According to Trooper First Class Jesse LaGrange, at 9:03 p.m. Saturday, a trooper attempted to conduct a traffic stop on Donald McPherson, of 5921 W. Main St., on La. 24 South near the Edward Street Bridge.

McPherson refused to stop and led the trooper on a short chase onto La. 3040 and through the Sam’s Club parking lot before finally stopping on La. 24 South near the Wendy’s, LaGrange said.

The trooper detected signs of impairment and placed McPherson under arrest, LaGrange said. The suspect was charged with DWI third offense, driving under suspension from a previous DWI, flight from an officer, no tail lights, expired inspection sticker and a switched license plate.
