TYPE OF INCIDENT: Fail to Stop & Render Aid “3rd Degree Felony”

DATE/TIME REPORTED: January 15, 2018 at approximately 1556 hours

LOCATION: 500 Block of West 25th Street

SUMMARY:

Odessa Police have made an arrest in connection to a major crash that occurred yesterday afternoon in Northwest Odessa. Craig Austin Ashmore, date of birth 12/19/1987, has been charged with Fail to Stop and Render Aid “3rd Degree Felony”.

On January 15, 2018 at approximately 1556 hours, Odessa Police and Odessa Fire rescue responded to the 500 block of West 25th Street in reference to a hit and run crash involving a pedestrian. Upon arrival, officers observed a male subject, identified as David Richards, 52 years of age, lying down on the ground.

Investigation revealed that a Nissan Rogue, being operated by Ashmore, was traveling westbound in the 500 block of West 25th Street and struck a parked Chevrolet Malibu. The impact caused the Malibu to strike David Richards who was standing nearby.

Ashmore fled the scene without making any attempt to render aid to Richards. Officers later located Ashmore with the Nissan Rogue in the 2400 block of Kermit Highway. Richards was transported to Medical Center Hospital with serious bodily injury and is currently listed as being in critical condition.

Based on the facts and circumstances presented during the investigation, Ashmore was charged and arrested accordingly and transported to the Ector County Law Enforcement Center.
